Commemorative Quilt

In 2012, the Calgary chapter of the League of Ukrainian Women in Canada organized a project for its members to promote the rich and beautiful Ukrainian tradition of embroidery. Members and friends painstakingly hand-stitched 35 squares of their favourite Ukrainian embroidery designs, which were then sewn into a quilt.  The designs also incorporated the “Tryzub”, Ukraine’s national coat of arms, our adopted homeland’s Canadian maple leaf, and a cross signifying our faith in God and a tribute to those women who laid the foundation of our organization. The quilt was donated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church in commemoration of the 1025th anniversary of the conversion to Christianity of Kyivan Rus.
